A Winter Vacation in Whitefish

A Winter Vacation in Whitefish

View of Glacier National Park from Whitefish Mountain Resort

Looking for winter activities in Whitefish? Look no further! We’ve got a list of our most highly rated and recommended winter trips in Whitefish and Glacier National Park.

1) Spend a day skiing at Whitefish Mountain Resort

Know for cheap lift tickets, zero lift lines, and superb service, it’s easy to see why Whitefish Mountain Resort is consistently ranked in Ski Magazine’s Best Ski Resorts in America. Here’s what they had to say: “arguably the most down-home, friendliest, and well, real, ski towns you’ll ever have the pleasure to visit.”

Not a skier/snowboarder? No problem. The mountain offers foot passenger tickets for guests who want to ride to the top to look around and enjoy the view (above). Bundle up, though, only open chairlifts will get you there.

2) Snowshoe in Glacier National Park

Experience Glacier National Park this winter

Located just 45 minutes from Whitefish, enjoy Glacier National Park this winter on one of our guided tours. We offer guided snowshoe tours of Glacier, as well as cross-country ski tours of Glacier. For the less active-inclined, we also provide scenic driving tours of Glacier National Park.

Learn about park history, glaciation, and the flora and fauna of the most beautiful park in the lower 48… in our humble opinion.

3) Snowmobile through the Stillwater State Forest

Snowmobile with Northwest Montana Adventures

While snowmobiles are not permitted in Glacier National Park, you can get fantastic views of the park from the trails of the Stillwater State Forest. We partner with Northwest Montana Adventures and offer half day, guided snowmobile trips. Your trip includes round trip transportation from your lodging property, a 4-hour private tour (just your group with the guide), and snowmobile (helmet/gloves). Got kids? No worries. They can hop on the back! Just let us know in advance.

4) Dogsledding, Sleigh Rides, & More

Doggies taking a break at Dogsled Adventures

We get a TON of questions about these excursions. Here’s what you need to know if the above activities are on your list of “MUST DOs”…

Dog Sledding: These operators are few and far between so you need to PLAN AHEAD. The largest operator closest to Whitefish is Dog Sled Adventures in Olney. Base Camp Bigfork offers additional trips about 45 minutes south of Whitefish. We recommend booking these trips on your own, but if you need help with getting there, we can shuttle your group. Just contact us directly.

Sleigh Rides: There are two operators that offer sleigh rides. Cripple Creek Horse Ranch is located 45 minutes away in Trego. Clydesdale Outpost is much closer to Whitefish, and offers unique experiences with their team of horses. Both outfits are great options for your group. Again, we’re happy to shuttle you there if you’re not renting a vehicle.

Other activities you might consider are ice fishing with Howe’s Fishing, ice skating at the Stumptown Ice Den, or… for the more internationally inclined… a day trip to Fernie Alpine Resort in Canada!
